Service Description

This course has been carefully designed to support you throughout your journey to becoming an End of Life Doula. It combines personalised education, professional supervision, virtual learning, and independent study to equip you with the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to begin your doula career. You will receive individual 1:1 guidance alongside collaborative group learning, ensuring you are supported both personally and professionally as you develop your practice. The programme encourages self-awareness, reflective practice, and compassionate care, enabling you to provide emotional, practical, and holistic support to individuals and their families during the final stages of life. The course explores how compassionate, person-centred care can enhance quality of life, dignity, and choice at the end of life while complementing, rather than relying solely upon, medical interventions. Recognising death as a natural part of the human experience, learners will gain the knowledge and confidence to support individuals and families across the four domains of end of life care while working within the principles of palliative care. Course Provision ● Monthly personalised supervision sessions, tailored to your individual learning needs, using case studies and practical scenarios to help translate theory into confident practice. ● Student-led group seminars, with each learner expected to facilitate at least one session during the programme. ● Six specialist seminars covering key topics such as dementia, spiritual care, hope, assisted dying, grief, and advance care planning. These are delivered as pre-recorded presentations followed by facilitated virtual discussions. ● Access to 25 comprehensive e-learning modules, including eight mandatory modules that form the core curriculum. ● Opportunity to participate in the annual Doula Retreat, where available, providing additional learning, networking, and peer support. ● Assessment and Reflective Practice Throughout the programme, learners are expected to maintain a reflective journal documenting their personal and professional development. They will also build a portfolio of evidence demonstrating how they have applied their learning within their developing doula practice. Completion of the required e-learning modules and submission of the portfolio will demonstrate competence, reflective practice, and readiness to provide compassionate end of life support.
